after a fire burned their home. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong has been there since 4:30 this morning getting a close look at the damage. >> reporter: good morning, tori. we have daylight. we can get a look at the damage. you can see how hot this fire burned. there was a partial roof collapse this morning. so waiting for daylight was very important for investigations to make sure it was safe so they can figure out what areas are safe to go into as they try to figure this out. we just talked to a neighbor who practically could feel the heat of the fire from his deck. he told us what he saw. >> from what i could tell, it was another oakland hills fire. it was so intense and so big. i thought what's going on here? it was just the one house. but it was very scary. >> reporter: when he first saw the firefighter, the firefighters were not called get. they got a call at about 12:15 and they got here and saw the fire was surrounding threatening -- the fire was threatsenning surrounding homes and they called for backup. there was one person in a wheelchair. two officers were a

. ktvu channel reporter allie rasmus is live with the damage and information on how two people escaped the flames. good morning, allie. >> reporter: good morning. this fire started at:00 in the morning. now four hours later, investigators are going through the home trying to pinpoint what happened. firefighters are dousing the walls with water to make sure nothing flares up again. two people got out safely. more on that in a minute. first we want to show you the through. you can get a sense of how large this house is -- 3800 square feet. the size hans configuration of the house were both challenges for firefighters putting out this fire. so is the weather. it's warmer than unusual in vallejo and it is -- as it is in most pats. they had to bring in extra crews to relieve some of the firefighters who first responded to the fire. >> we went to three alarms on this. it -- it's a large house. it's an older house. my third alarm was to get crews on scene to help with the overall fire. >> reporter: two people were able to get out due to the smoke detectors. the father told me off camera, that

in oakland i'm tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. >>> if you thought gas prices were high over the weekend, guess what, they went up again while you were sleeping overnight. ktvu channel 2 reporter matt keller is in our newsroom with on how the governor is trying to step in to help. good morning, matt. >> reporter: we just got the new numbers. for the third straight day the average price for a gallon of regular hit another all time high at $4.67 a gallon. of course in the bay area you are paying a few cents more at $4.71 a gallon. drivers are frustrated at the high costs. especially compared to the rest of the country. now governor jerry brown is trying to help by ordering state smog regulators to allow winter blend to be sold in california earlier than usual to bring down prices. winter blend gas isn't typically sold until october 31st. he hopes by selling it now it would increase supplies by bringing down prices. the high prices are changing driving habits. >> i try not to drive unless i really have to. >> i'm grateful and i only use the bike when necessary. >> reporter: the dramatic sur

to mornings on 2 i'm claudine wong. >> and i'm eric rasmussen in for mike mibach. ktvu were the only ones on scene during that pole down. allie rasmus is there live with a look at the response and repairs. >> reporter: pg&e spokeswoman told me they hoped to have the power back on to everyone in the neighborhood. 5,000 people felt impacted by the outage. they hope to have the power back on by 8:30 this morning. you can see they have a lot of work ahead of them. this happened after that white car being towed right now. the driver crashed into that 45- foot power pole slicing it in half and tossing power lines into people's homes and yards. this happened around 3:00 this morning. initially when that power pole was knocked over, those were live wires that were thrown across the street. the wires aren't live anymore. they have turned the power off. and now pg&e and other utility workers are trying to figure out how they will put things back together. the female driver was taken to the hospital after this crash. but we don't know her condition exactly. but we can tell you 125 minutes ago someon
